As a core shipping hub in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia plays a critical role in regional maritime logistics. Jubail Port, located in the eastern region of the country, is one of the most important comprehensive ports, handling over 30% of container and heavy cargo transshipment in the Middle East. With the advancement of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy, the port launched an efficiency upgrade program and urgently needed to replace its outdated and inefficient straddle carriers. The original three traditional diesel straddle carriers suffered from low operational efficiency, high failure rates under extreme heat, complex operation, and excessive energy consumption.
They were unable to meet the port’s growing transshipment demand—particularly under Saudi summer temperatures exceeding 50°C and frequent sand and dust conditions. Problems such as motor overheating and electrical failures occurred frequently. To achieve “high efficiency, stability, and energy saving,” the client conducted extensive evaluations and ultimately selected HSCRANE’s customized intelligent diesel straddle carrier solution, introducing five smart straddle carriers in batch to upgrade port handling efficiency.

●High-temperature optimization: Equipped with an intelligent constant-temperature cooling system, optimized engine cooling structure, and high-temperature-resistant materials to ensure stable operation in environments ranging from -5°C to 60°C.
●Dust-proof enhancement: Electrical systems and engines were sealed and upgraded with dust filters to effectively prevent sand ingress and reduce failure rates.
●Intelligent system integration: Optimized monitoring system enabling real-time operational data upload and remote dispatching; supports semi-automatic loading and unloading to reduce operational complexity.
●Installation and commissioning: Two senior engineers were dispatched to Jubail Port to complete installation, commissioning, and operator training. All five units were put into operation within 16 days.
●After-sales service: An after-sales service center was established in Riyadh, staffed with professional maintenance engineers and spare parts inventory, providing 72-hour emergency response service.
After deployment, the five intelligent diesel straddle carriers significantly improved cargo handling efficiency at Jubail Port. Each unit achieved an average of 225 operations per day—an increase of 200% compared to the previous traditional straddle carriers. Overall port turnover efficiency improved by 65%, effectively alleviating cargo congestion. Energy consumption decreased by 31%, with daily fuel usage per unit reduced from 55 L to 38 L. Annual fuel cost savings reached approximately RMB 600,000 per unit. Emissions met Euro V standards and were recognized by Saudi port authorities.
In terms of environmental adaptability, the equipment performed reliably during extreme summer heat conditions. The failure rate was only 0.3%, fully meeting 24/7 operational demands. The intelligent control system significantly reduced operational difficulty. Standard operators could become qualified after just one week of training, reducing labor costs by 40%. The laser anti-collision system effectively prevented accidents, substantially improving operational safety.
