Upgrading Marina Infrastructure with HSCRANE 150-Ton Travel Lift in Panama

Release time:Jun-18-2026

As the global high-end marine tourism market expands, the “Caribbean Star Yacht Club” located in the Port of Colón, Panama, is facing unprecedented service challenges. As a strategic hub connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the club not only meets daily yacht berthing needs, but also undertakes massive tasks of large yacht maintenance and repair after transoceanic voyages. To break through the existing lifting bottlenecks, the Port of Colón decided to introduce high-performance lifting equipment. After multiple rounds of technical selection, they finally chose our 150-ton professional hydraulic travel lift. This project has not only achieved a qualitative leap in wharf lifting capacity, but also reshaped yacht maintenance standards in the Latin American region through a precise digital control system.

Project Background & Core Challenges

Before the upgrade, the Port of Colón mainly relied on traditional marine railway track systems, which were severely affected by tides and low in operational efficiency. With the growing number of ultra-large ocean-going yachts in recent years, the original lifting facilities could not meet the combined requirements of hull height and weight, forcing many customers to go to the East Coast of the United States for repairs, which caused significant commercial loss.

Technical Solution: Excellent Performance of the Travel Lift

To cope with the variable tropical climate and high-frequency operational needs, the travel lift was endowed with several key technical parameters:

Rated lifting capacity: 150 tons

Maximum lifting height: 12 meters (ensuring high-freeboard yachts can safely clear the water surface)

Hydraulic steering system: 90-degree four-wheel steering, enabling pivot turning within narrow wharf areas

Anti-corrosion treatment: The entire frame adopts C5-grade marine anti-corrosion paint, effectively resisting high salt spray corrosion in Panama

Intelligent control: Equipped with a multi-sensor synchronous balancing system to ensure that sling tension remains absolutely stable under asymmetric loads

Implementation Effects of the Travel Lift

Since the equipment was put into operation, the Caribbean Star Yacht Club has achieved a qualitative transformation. The yacht hauling operation, which originally took two days, can now be smoothly completed in just 45 minutes. More importantly, the introduction of this travel lift is not only a hardware upgrade, but also an expansion of business boundaries. The club is now capable of undertaking a full range of services, including primer cleaning, propeller overhauls, and carbon fiber hull structural reinforcement. A spokesperson for the Colón Port Authority stated: “This 150-ton big guy has become an iconic calling card for the modernization process of the Port of Colón.”

By introducing the 150-ton travel lift, the Port of Colón in Panama successfully overcame the operational limitations of traditional marine railways. Relying on high-precision balance control and excellent anti-corrosion performance, it extended the wharf service boundaries from simple berthing to high-end maintenance, significantly enhancing its commercial competitiveness as a Latin American shipping hub, and proving the critical driving role of high-performance lifting equipment in enhancing the core operational value of modern wharves.
